What is Newport Select Boys Basketball Club?

NSBBC is a non-profit basketball club that offers boys in 4th grade through 8th grade that feed into Newport High School attendance area the opportunity to develop their basketball skills in a positive, competitive atmosphere that also promotes leadership, teamwork, sportsmanship and a sense of community.

How do you play?

Tryouts are held over two evenings around the second week of September at Newport High School. There is no cost to tryout. Tryout registration will begin in mid-August.

When do we play?

Practices generally start the first week of October, at Newport High School feeder schools. Specific times and locations are announced once gym schedules are available. Each team will hold a 1 to 1 ½ hour practice, two times per week.

Regular season games begin the first weekend in December and end with a playoff tournament typically the last week of February. During the season each team will play one to two games per weekend, usually on Saturday, but possibly on Sunday as well. Games are played at Eastside area high schools and possibly middle school gyms.

In addition to regular season games, each team will play in three weekend tournaments during the season. Coaches will select which weekend tournaments to enter.

What league do we play?

We play in the Eastside Travel League (ETL), and for those grade levels fielding a second team, the second team plays in the PEAK Winter League.

What is the cost of play?

The cost for the 2019-20 fall/winter season is approximately $750 per player, which includes a NSBBC sweatshirt, practice jersey, two team practices, league entry and three weekend tournaments.

When does the Board of Directors meet:?

The board meets the second Tuesday of the month at Newport High School, room 1112 or 1113.
