Hello Newport Select Boys Basketball Families,

Thank you for your support during the 2018-19 basketball season! Our Spring season recently ended and we’re pleased to share that the 6th-grade team was the Peak League Silver Division Champions!

As we look forward to the summer and all that it brings, we want to provide some updates and information for the 2019-2020 season. First, Kirk Arthur and John Blizzard will be transitioning out of their roles on the NSBB board. Kirk’s role as President will be filled by Cory Sparling, and John’s role as Treasurer will be filled by Ryan Jacques. Thank you both for your leadership and support of the program, and welcome Cory and Ryan! Additionally, we would like to get some 4th and 5th-grade families involved on the Board as several members will be moving on to high school in the coming year or two. If you have any interest in learning more about the positions and support we need for 2019-2020, please email board@newportbasketball.com.

We’re also excited to announce that Mark Prince has been named Head Coach for the Newport High School basketball team. Coach Prince brings years of basketball and coaching experience, from Skyline and various other High Schools, and we’re excited to work with him to improve our feeder program.

Tryouts for the winter league will be held in September 2019, exact dates to be announced on a later date. Please take a moment to “Like” the NSBBC Facebook page (link here), as another way of team engagement and up-to-date program information. Meantime, summer is a great opportunity to develop fundamental basketball skills and advance. Please encourage your kids to shoot around! Below are some summer Basketball Camps to consider:

• Mike Hopkins UW Basketball Camp at Bellevue College, July 8-11
• Hoops4Life at Hidden Valley Boys and Girls Club July 8-12
• You can also reach out to Chevy Walker (chevywalker@c-e-s-p.com) or Marlon Bailey (maba74@comcast.net) for information on private sessions.

Last, in the coming weeks, please anticipate a mail directly from Cory Sparling regarding a few program changes and some information around the level of effort and focus our Board is putting into hiring stable, experienced and passionate coaches for our program.
We’re looking forward to seeing players and families in September, and rebuilding your trust in our program!
